Printago Goes Free Forever + Opens API Access for Developers

Two big changes today. First, Printago is now free forever, no matter how many printers you connect. Second, we're opening up our API for developers and automation enthusiasts. Printago is still in open beta right now, and we'll be turning on billing features soon as we move toward our commercial release.

Rethinking Print Farm Pricing

The way print farm software has always been priced never sat right with us. Charging per connected printer means your costs go up every time you add a machine, whether you're actively using it or not. That punishes growth and experimentation, especially if you're testing new printer configurations or scaling up.

Our new model is simple: you pay only for concurrent jobs. Connect as many printers as you want (10, 50, even 200) and use Printago completely free with one concurrent job. Your print queue automatically manages all your connected printers, moving from one to the next. When you need more throughput, bump up your concurrent job limit.

And Printago never demands exclusive control of your printers. You can keep using Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, Handy, or whatever else you prefer. Printago works alongside your existing workflows, adding value without forcing you to change anything. Transition to Printago's automation features at your own pace while keeping full control over your hardware.

So instead of paying thousands per month for a large printer farm, you start free and only scale costs when production actually demands it. No more paying for idle capacity or getting penalized for having specialized or backup printers. Need more throughput? Add concurrent jobs. If demand slows, scale back. That said, we're pretty confident the time you save through automation will have you focused on creating and selling new products, not cutting capacity.

The pricing itself stays in line with what we had before for per-printer plans. The difference is you're only paying for how many jobs Printago processes from your queue at a time, not for the ability to connect a printer and use core features.

Public API Access

We're also opening up our API to the public today. This is the same API that powers Printago.io, now available in alpha for developers and automation enthusiasts. If you're generating models programmatically or need to integrate Printago into your existing workflows, reach out via email or Discord. We're taking requests for access on a case-by-case basis for now.

What's Coming Next

We're working on some features that we think will change how print farms run day-to-day:

Intelligent Material Management Soon, Printago will automatically match prints to the right printer and AMS slots based on material and color requirements. If you've got 50 AMS units with different color combos loaded, Printago routes each job to the best printer and configures the correct slot mapping. No more manual setup.

Dynamic Color Customization We're building automated painting capabilities using our OpenSCAD system. You'll be able to create products where customers pick colors for specific features like custom text or engravings. More personalization options for customers, higher-value products for you.

Combine these with the API, and you can build some really powerful automation workflows. Customers uploading photos to your Shopify store for automatic lithophane creation. Interactive design interfaces where customers customize products in real-time and their orders flow straight to your printers with zero manual steps. We're just getting started here, and honestly we're excited to see what the community builds.

While we're making core functionality free and opening the API, we'll keep investing in premium features like retail channel integrations, automation tools, and enterprise support. Our take is pretty straightforward: software shouldn't be the barrier to scaling your manufacturing operations.
