Prusa XL
The Original Prusa XL is a large-format CoreXY 3D printer with a 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume, roughly five times the capacity of the MK4 series. The motion system uses a fixed gantry and moving bed, and the frame is built from aluminum and steel for rigidity at scale. A 16-zone segmented heatbed with independently controlled tiles reduces energy use and thermal warping across the large surface, while a load-cell Nextruder handles automatic first-layer calibration. Input shaper, pressure advance, and phase-stepping round out the feature set, and the single-toolhead configuration is expandable to multi-material via additional toolheads.
Pros
- 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume accommodates large single-piece prints
- CoreXY kinematics with input shaper enable higher speeds than a bed-slinger of this size
- Segmented 16-zone heatbed reduces warping and energy use
- Modular toolchanger design allows a future upgrade to multi-material
Cons
- Large footprint requires dedicated bench space
- Enclosure sold separately, adding cost for ABS, ASA, and PA users
- Premium price point compared to the MK4S
