Elegoo Centauri Carbon Multi-Color: The CANVAS System Explained

June 19, 2026

How multi-color and multi-material printing works on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 with the CANVAS system. What Elegoo's AMS equivalent is, how to set it up, and how to cut waste.

Elegoo's multi-material system is called CANVAS, and on the Centauri Carbon it is available on the Centauri Carbon 2. It is the Centauri Carbon's equivalent of an AMS: it feeds up to four filaments and switches between them automatically for multi-color and multi-material prints. (AMS is Bambu Lab's term; on the Centauri Carbon you are looking for CANVAS.)

What CANVAS is

CANVAS is the Centauri Carbon 2's four-color system: the equivalent of an AMS. You load up to four filaments, assign them to slots in the slicer, and the printer switches between them automatically during the print. That covers both multi-color models and multi-material prints (for example a model body in one filament with supports in another).

This is a Centauri Carbon 2 (CC2) feature. The original Centauri Carbon (CC1) is a single-material machine.

Setting it up

Multi-color runs through ElegooSlicer, which ships the CANVAS workflow. The high-level flow:

  1. Select the Centauri Carbon 2 profile so the slicer knows the CANVAS system is present.
  2. Assign filaments to the CANVAS slots and color your model (by object, by part, or by painting).
  3. The slicer plans automatic filament switching, including the purge needed to flush the previous color out of the nozzle.

Because this path is Elegoo-specific, the exported G-code includes Elegoo's M6211 commands that drive the physical filament changes. Use ElegooSlicer for it rather than stock OrcaSlicer.

Cutting the waste

The honest tradeoff with any AMS-style system is purge waste: every color change flushes the old filament. To keep it down:

  • Tune flush volumes so you purge just enough to get a clean color, not more.
  • Use a purge object or wipe tower so the flushed material does something useful, or at least lands somewhere predictable.
  • Reduce changes per layer by grouping same-color regions and avoiding unnecessary color transitions in the model.

Multi-color across a farm

Multi-color jobs are slow and filament-hungry, so routing them efficiently matters. Printago manages Centauri Carbons in a single queue and slices in the cloud with the same OrcaSlicer engine ElegooSlicer is built on, so multi-material jobs carry their slot assignments and flush settings to whatever capable machine is free.
