How to Change the Color of a Print in OrcaSlicer
June 19, 2026
Recolor an object, paint multiple colors on one model, and set up multi-color prints in OrcaSlicer with an AMS or with manual filament-change pauses.
Changing color in OrcaSlicer depends on what you want: recolor a whole object by assigning it a different filament, or paint several colors onto one model with the Color Painting tool. This mirrors the Bambu Studio workflow, since the two share an engine.

Recolor a whole object
Select the object and assign it a different filament slot from the filament list. Each slot is a color or material. With an AMS or multi-material unit, the printer switches filament automatically; without one, OrcaSlicer inserts a filament-change pause so you swap the spool at the right moment (the pause workflow).
Paint multiple colors on one model
For more than one color on a single object, use the Color Painting tool:
- Select the model.
- Open Color Painting from the toolbar.
- Pick a filament color and paint the regions you want in it.
- Repeat with other colors; each region prints in its assigned filament.
This is how you get logos, text, and multi-tone surfaces on one part.
With or without an AMS
With an AMS, changes are automatic and multi-color is practical even with many transitions. Without one, every change is a manual swap pause, which is fine for a couple of colors. Either way each change purges filament into a prime tower or flush, so tune flush volumes (the same idea as removing the prime tower) to limit waste.
Why this matters for a print farm
Multi-color jobs are slower and use more filament, and without an AMS they need a person at the machine for every swap. At scale, route multi-color work to AMS-equipped machines and keep single-color jobs flowing elsewhere.
Printago manages mixed fleets in one queue, tracks color and material per job through material intelligence, and slices in the cloud with OrcaSlicer or Bambu Studio. See print farm slicing.
