Watchtower vs Printago: Local 3D Printer Dashboard and Print Farm Software Compared (2026)

Reviewed October 20, 2026

Watchtower vs Printago, reviewed October 20, 2026. A local printer dashboard sold as a one-time license on Kickstarter, compared with print farm software that runs production from order to finished print: pricing, hosting, slicing, store orders, failure detection, and printer support.

Overview

Watchtower is a 3D printer dashboard that runs on a computer in your shop. It installs on a Mac, a Windows PC, a Linux box, or a Raspberry Pi, finds the printers on your network, and gives you a camera wall, printer controls, a queue, a file library, filament tracking, alerts, and analytics without a vendor cloud. It is sold as a one-time license. Its Kickstarter campaign runs until October 31, 2026, and is well past its goal; the software is in public beta, and licensed builds are expected about 30 days after the campaign closes.

Printago is 3D print farm software that runs production from order to finished print. It covers the same fleet ground (live status, a camera grid, a material-aware queue, filament inventory, failure alerts, maintenance tracking) and runs the steps around it: orders from Shopify, Etsy, eBay, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, and Wix, plus ShipStation and Shippo for every other channel, SKU and variant mapping, personalized text and serial numbers built into the part, and cloud slicing for whichever printer has the right material loaded.

What Watchtower Does

Watchtower is built around watching and running the machines. A camera wall shows every printer at full frame rate (Watchtower claims 40+ streams on one screen), and clicking a tile opens a live console with controls, temperatures, and the filament loaded. A unified alarm feed collects Bambu Lab HMS errors, Klipper faults, PrusaLink warnings, and Anycubic and Elegoo error codes in one list.

Its queue routes files you have already sliced to an available printer by type, material, and status, and Auto-Eject and Auto-Ready clear the bed and check it with the camera before the next job. It also tracks spools, detects spaghetti failures, sends alerts by iMessage, SMS, email, Discord, Slack, or browser push, and includes a farm agent you can text in plain English to ask what is printing or queue a job. Smart plugs (Kasa and Matter) let it cut power to a printer and report energy cost.

Remote access runs through a WireGuard, Tailscale, or Cloudflare tunnel that Watchtower sets up for you. After a one-time license activation, nothing goes through Watchtower's servers.

Where It Runs

Watchtower runs only on your own hardware. Cameras, files, and farm data stay on your network unless you turn on the remote-access tunnel, and the dashboard needs no account once the license is activated.

Printago gives you both options. The cloud edition needs nothing to host: Bambu Lab X1, P1, and A1 printers on cloud-compatible firmware connect through your Bambu account with nothing to install, and every other printer connects through Fuse, a free local bridge for Windows, Mac, Docker, or a Raspberry Pi. Printers are never exposed to the internet, you reach the farm from a browser or the native iOS and Android apps, and prints already running carry on through an internet outage. On the cloud edition, your part files are stored in Printago's cloud.

The self-hosted edition puts the whole platform on your own infrastructure, fully air-gapped if you need it. License keys validate locally with no license server to contact, and updates arrive as image bundles you import on your own schedule.

Slicing and Job Flow

Every new product a farm adds needs a sliced file for each printer it will run on. Who does that slicing, and when, decides how fast the farm can take on new work.

Watchtower's queue starts from files you slice yourself: "upload direct from your slicer." It then picks a printer by type, material, and status, and remaps colors to the slots that hold them. Slicing inside Watchtower is a funded Kickstarter stretch goal, with no delivery date given.

Printago slices at the moment the queue matches a job to a printer, using that printer's machine profile, the filament profile for the material actually loaded, and the part's process profile, with OrcaSlicer or Bambu Studio as the engine. You upload a model once, and it prints on any compatible printer model without a separate file per machine. Gutenbed routes each job by loaded material, nozzle, and tags.

Slicing at match time also lets Printago fill a plate across orders. Plate Merging combines compatible queued jobs onto one build plate, including different lines of one order and jobs from different orders, by hand or automatically, and every job keeps its own order tracking. Merging applies to single-color jobs.

Orders and SKUs

Watchtower's Pro tier and above import paid orders from Etsy and Shopify. You map each SKU to a G-code file once, and new orders queue that file. More storefronts ("WooCommerce, eBay, and more") are a funded stretch goal with no date given.

Printago's store connections run in production today. Shopify, Etsy, eBay, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, and Wix connect directly, and ShipStation and Shippo bring in orders from every other channel they collect, including Amazon and Walmart. Each order line is matched to a SKU and variant, which resolve to the right parts and materials rather than to a fixed file. Personalized text from the order is redrawn into the part, serial numbers are stamped into each unit, and parametric parts are generated from OpenSCAD or CadQuery with the order's values. Each job is then sliced for whichever printer takes it.

Fleet Monitoring, Failures, and Maintenance

Printago shows live status, progress, temperatures, and material state for every printer on one dashboard, including prints started outside Printago. A shop-wide camera grid, peer-to-peer streams through Fuse, RTSP and RTSPS cameras, timelapses, and completion photos are all built in, along with native iOS and Android apps. Alerts go to Discord, Slack, Telegram, Pushover, or any webhook.

Printago's AI failure detection is in closed beta, with a built-in hosted detector or a self-hosted one on your own hardware. An alert can pause or stop the printer and shows the frames that raised it, and Bambu Lab's onboard spaghetti detections land in the same list. The Maintenance Tracker schedules service by print hours, calendar days, or job count, and maintenance mode takes a printer out of the queue while you work on it.

FabMatic continuous printing, on every plan including free, starts the next job after the bed clears, with ejectors such as FarmLoop, Printflow3D, AutoSwap, AutoClear One, and the Innocube3D Swapmod, or any clearing triggered from end G-code.

Printago has no smart-plug power control, and team roles apply to the whole fleet rather than to individual printers.

Printer Support

Watchtower connects over Bambu Lab's local interface, Klipper through Moonraker, Prusa through PrusaLink, and OctoPrint, plus named Anycubic and Elegoo models. It handles Bambu AMS, Creality CFS, QIDI Box, Anycubic ACE, Elegoo CANVAS, and toolchangers such as the Snapmaker U1. Broader printer support is a funded stretch goal.

Printago connects hundreds of printer models across 50+ brands: Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, Snapmaker, Elegoo, and Anycubic, any Klipper or Moonraker printer, and any printer behind an OctoPrint host, with per-slot material tracking for AMS, CFS, ACE, and Canvas units and the Snapmaker toolchanger. Check your machines on the printer compatibility matrix.

Pricing

Watchtower sells one-time licenses, and each tier caps how many printers you connect:

Watchtower tier Printers Retail (USD, one time) Kickstarter Early Bird
Hobby 5 $99 $59
Basic 10 $199 $119
Pro 15 $349 $209
Farm 25 $599 $359
Farm Plus 50 $899 $539
Farm Ultra 100 $1,349 $809

Kickstarter pledges are charged in Canadian dollars. A license includes one year of updates, raised to two years for Kickstarter backers; after that you keep the version you have or extend updates at 50% of the current retail price. Spaghetti detection starts at Basic, and the Etsy and Shopify integration and the farm agent start at Pro.

Printago never charges per printer or per job. You pay for production slots, the number of jobs running at the same time. Every plan connects unlimited printers, the first slot is free, and extra slots are $4.00 a month each, or $44 a year on annual billing. A 20-printer farm that runs five jobs at a time pays for four slots: $16 a month. Team members are free. See pricing.

Who Should Choose What

Watchtower is a strong fit if you want the dashboard running only on your own computer with no cloud account, smart-plug power control with energy cost, or a farm agent you can text over iMessage or SMS, and you prefer a one-time license sized to your printer count.

Printago is a strong fit if your orders come from Shopify, Etsy, eBay, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, Wix, ShipStation, or Shippo, you would rather not slice every new product by hand for each printer model, you sell personalized or serial-numbered products, your products have variants, or you want small orders packed onto full plates. It also fits if you need the platform on your own hardware: the self-hosted edition runs air-gapped.

Bottom Line

Watchtower is a local dashboard for running the machines: a camera wall, one console for every brand, an alarm feed, bed clearing, and a texting agent, sold as a one-time license sized to your printer count.

Printago runs production from the order to the finished print. Orders arrive from your stores, resolve through SKUs and variants, get personalized text or serial numbers built into the part, and are sliced for the printer that has the right material loaded, with no per-printer pricing and a self-hosted edition when the cloud is not an option.

Operators running that automation in production see it in hours saved: Photon Print Farm cut daily farm work from 8+ hours to 1, and JC Print Farm scaled from 30 to 100 printers while build-plate prep went from 3 to 4 hours a day to near zero.
